Stanley and Portia's first car was a brown Plymouth fondly known as Penelope.
They bought and shared Penelope with college friends Lloyd Dalquist and his wife, Jan.
Both couples used it for their honeymoons and they shared it as they studied at McCormick Seminary in Chicago.
It wasn't hard for them to share a car. Stan and Lloyd were both very generous and easy to get along with. There was a lot of public transportation available and none were used to having a car of their own.
Stan eventually bought out Lloyd's share. Stanley and Portia stayed in touch with the Dalquists. Lloyd died in his 50s of a heart condition no one knew he had. As of spring 2014, Jan is still living in Upper Michigan.
