Clarence Johanson – World War I
Clarence Johanson had the distinction of being the last living World War I veteran in Traverse County, MN. The 21-gun salute at his funeral in 1991 was the first I had ever experienced.
Here is a story Portia Johnson (my mother, Clarence's daughter) wrote about his experience in the war.
He left some interesting artifacts from that experience.
