When Stan and Portia had their first child in early 1954, mothers were encouraged to feed their babies formula.  Commercial baby formula was not readily available until the 60s, so Portia made her own using the recipe below.   As her babies grew, she increased the amount of milk and decreased the amount of water in the mix.
